Nightclub Roof Collapse in Dominican Republic: Death Toll Rises to 184

Santo Domingo: The death toll from the tragic collapse of a nightclub roof in the capital, Santo Domingo, has risen to 184, with over 150 others injured in the incident. The collapse occurred during a concert at the popular Jet Set nightclub on Tuesday night, leaving hundreds of attendees trapped beneath the rubble.

Among the deceased are a provincial governor and former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel. The 51-year-old was pulled from the debris but succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

Approximately 400 rescue workers continue to search the debris for any potential survivors. Despite no one being found alive since the initial aftermath, emergency teams remain hopeful. "We cannot rule anything out. We are combing through every inch of the rubble," said Juan Manuel Méndez, Director of the Emergency Operations Center. "We’re still searching for good news to give the families of those trapped."

It is believed that singer Rubby Pérez, who was performing at the time of the collapse, may still be trapped under the debris.

In response to the disaster, Dominican President Luis Abinader has declared three days of national mourning. Rescue operations continue as the nation grapples with one of its deadliest structural tragedies in recent history.
